I started the check-up in the Klinik (CTG and Ultrasound) and it went on until the 9th day over due date. You can wait half a day for this routine check, heavily pregnant, sitting on very uncomfortable benches. Then you are checked: if you are lucky by a young doctor, but anyway everyday a different one. I was even checked twice by a person who apparently didn't have the Dr. title.
Ok, to make the story short: you are registered and checked for ten days. Staff of the clinic should know you, your clinical history and at which point you should start pushing the baby out... But in my case every check, made by another person, gave me another point of view. e.g.: anything from 7 to 14 days after the due date. Then suddenly, on the 9th day it's urgent, the baby must come out, based on a CTG which was not exactly Ok, something strange...
We were told "we should induce the delivery as soon as possible, for the safety of the baby. But, sorry we don't have place here, you should go somewhere else!! We might have a place tomorrow morning, but it would be better you go now to another maternity".
As first time parents, one can imagine the panic at that moment. The person who gave us this information was reporting from the Oberarzt that we never spoke to. She recommended that we did the CTG again but it was clear that they wanted us to go somewhere else, as this second CTG was never looked at (but paid for, by the way!).
We then rushed to another hospital, where we had never been before. And after all this stress, we were reassured as they told us: "the CTG is fine, you can be induced tomorrow, after some rest".
Eventually our baby was born 12 days overdue.
We understand there is a lot of pressure on maternity at the moment (baby boom in the region) but we would have appreciated honesty ("we don't have resources for you") as opposed to scaremongering.
